What is the Truth?
“But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.” John 14:26 AMP
The Bible is the inspired, error-free, and revealed spoken word of God, which makes it the truth. The Holy Spirit was sent to comfort, advocate, intercede, counsel and strengthen humankind. The Holy Spirit was sent to help us with the truth. He plants seeds of knowledge regarding salvation in our hearts which helps us to understand God, but we will never know everything. The Bible is a glimpse into the Holiness of God. Each book in the Bible provides sound guidance and some contain prophetic parables. There is a deeply rooted message in each and every verse.
It’s so important that we do not take the Bible out of context. Whenever I read the Bible I try to read the whole chapter, rather than a particular verse, so I can get the context (background) of the message. Do your own research so you know the truth. When we learn the truth about the Bible we appreciate God more!
How do I understand the Bible?
“FOR THIS NATION’S HEART HAS GROWN HARD, AND WITH THEIR EARS THEY HARDLY HEAR, AND THEY HAVE [tightly] CLOSED THEIR EYES, OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, AND HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART, AND TURN [to Me] AND I WOULD HEAL THEM [spiritually].’ But blessed [spiritually aware, and favored by God] are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, many prophets and righteous men [who were honorable and in right standing with God] longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”
Matthew 13:15-17 AMP
The simple answer is that an unbeliever will not understand the word of God because they choose to harden their hearts and be blind to the truth. A believer has faith which is a necessary component to having a living relationship with God versus a dead relationship (e.g. receiving no understanding and healing). The Holy Spirit can only help a person to understand if they choose to have faith.
Faith is like a spiritual fertiliser that helps us to have good soil. A seed can only be planted in good soil to bear fruit and yield. Jesus explained briefly in Matthew 13:19 AMP that “when anyone hears the word of the kingdom [regarding salvation] and does not understand and grasp it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart…” I strongly believe that the devil can’t hurt us because Jesus defeated death and brought life and immortality to life through the gospel! But when we “allow” doubt in our lives .. it gives him a door into our lives to kill our faith, hope and joy. I know my heart can become hardened in those moments of despair, disappointment or unmet expectations, but I fight. I fight because, although it hurts, I’m truly happy to have a heart of flesh! It’s hard to be numb and hopeless when we strive to have heart of flesh like Jesus ❤️
“But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.”
Matthew 13:6 AMP
“yet he has no [substantial] root in himself, but is only temporary, and when pressure or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he stumbles and falls away [abandoning the One who is the source of salvation].” Matthew 13:21
Once the Holy Spirit plants a seed I need to ensure that I maintain a strong root by abiding in God, the source of my salvation. Whenever I allow doubt, fear and despair to control my flesh, my spiritual connection to Christ is weak. There’s a conflict going on between my flesh and my spirit… Jesus tells us that a plant with a weak root is damaged when exposed and then it withers away. I am nothing without discipline, direction and guidance from the Holy Spirit! Whenever I lose hope and stop maintaining my relationship with Jesus, I am easily led astray by the distractions of the world and unable to do the works of God.
What is the works of God?
“Then they asked Him, “What are we to do, so that we may habitually be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered, “This is the work of God: that you believe [adhere to, trust in, rely on, and have faith] in the One whom He has sent.””
John 6:28-29 AMP
True belief in Jesus (His death and resurrection; that He defeated the devil; that He will return) is obedience to God’s will and is far better than our sacrifices (or works; also see 1 SAMUEL 15:22 AMP). The word of God prophetically revealed that Jesus is the One that God sent to die for our sins. Jesus did not want to die, but because He embodies obedience He wilfully carried the cross to Calvary and fulfilled God’s will. This is also why Jesus is the truth, the Messiah and the living Son of God. Although Jesus was the promised “King of the Jews” He never gave into His own selfish desires or use military influences to spread the Gospel. Instead, He used love, compassion and grace to plant seeds of hope in the hearts of the people.
False spirit of prophecy distracts from the works of God!
“Thus says the Lord GOD, “Woe (judgment is coming) to the foolish prophets who are following their own spirit [claiming to have seen things] but have [in fact] seen nothing.”
EZEKIEL 13:3 AMP
The Bible gives very specific instructions about how we are to view false prophets. A false prophet claims to teach the truth, but in reality they replace the words of the Bible with conflicting practices for their own selfish desire. In my mind, prophets, angels, priests and pastors should have one similarity, which is to be humble servants of God. But God’s servants should not be worshipped. That’s Bible class 101. This is the simple truth, but it cuts across the religious practices of some Christians.
The Catholic church worships Mary and prays to saints. Although they are believers, they essentially practice idolatry as Mary and the saints are their holy intercessions to God. Should this be done if Jesus already died for our sins and interceded on our behalf? Now we have the Holy Spirit to also intercede and comfort us, so this is clear example of false teaching that is against God’s word.
The writer of Revelations (traditionally attributed to John the Apostle) prophesies either him or an unknown person having a conversation with an angel and when they fall down at the angels feet to worship him the angel says, “You must not do that; I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers and sisters who have and hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God [alone]. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy [His life and teaching are the heart of prophecy].””
Revelation 19:10 AMP
Jesus, the living Son of God is the only way to the Father. Believers need to be consistent in their worship if they honestly want to “spread” the Gospel. Believers who teach confusion or false prophecy are only pushing unbelievers away from God or acting as a stumbling block so other believers do not learn or hear from them the full truth about God’s will for their life.
“Whoever believes and has decided to trust in Him [as personal Savior and Lord] is not judged [for this one, there is no judgment, no rejection, no condemnation]; but the one who does not believe [and has decided to reject Him as personal Savior and Lord] is judged already [that one has been convicted and sentenced], because he has not believed and trusted in the name of the [One and] only begotten Son of God [the One who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, the One who alone can save him].”
John 3:18 AMP
True spirit of prophecy feeds the works of God!
“He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God…And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name inscribed, “KING OF KINGS, AND Lord OF LORDS.””
Revelation 19:13 & 16 AMP
Jesus is the “Word of God”, the “King of Kings” and “Lord of Lords”. There is no Son of God before Him and there will be none after Him. He is the Alpha and Omega. He is also apart of the Trinity, so He is God. This means that God is one God, but embodied in three divine personalities. Do we not have that too? I am a spiritual, physical and mental being with emotions (I am not a robot so I have free will and a conscience which science cannot explain or duplicate).
“Behold, the virgin shall be with child and give birth to a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel”—which, when translated, means, “God with us.” Matthew 1:23
“Then He said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and put out your hand and place it in My side. Do not be unbelieving, but [stop doubting and] believe.” Thomas answered Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, do you now believe? Blessed [happy, spiritually secure, and favored by God] are they who did not see [Me] and yet believed [in Me].”” John 20:27-29
Jesus is the perfect sacrifice. Why? Jesus is God manifested so He is the ONLY physical “human” capable of restoring our relationship with God. I am sure it makes sense that only God can restore humankind’s relationship and only God can pass judgment on humankind. If you believe in God. Then you believe He is powerful. This means that God has the power to manifest himself physically. He can still do that today! I get so excited when I try to explain this because my heart is sold to this truth.
As a law graduate this analogy actually makes a lot of sense and gives me comfort because it simply means that God has His own separation of powers, which ensures that there is no abuse of powers and that the three divine persons are incapable of interfering with one another. God cannot lie about Himself or abuse His power! The Holy Spirit is our comforter, God is our Father and Jesus is our Saviour. I understand and grasp this, and I see that I am truly blessed and not alone.. even in my darkest moments.
Conclusion: Do not be easily misled from the Truth by false believers or false prophets as this causes division in the Church (it doesn’t matter which church just in general! Jesus is the groom and the church is His bride – we have a duty to speak on the truth)!
“Jesus said to him, “ I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
John 14:6 AMP
“But I urge you, believers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you be in full agreement in what you say, and that there be no divisions or factions among you, but that you be perfectly united in your way of thinking and in your judgment[about matters of the faith].”
1 CORINTHIANS 1:10 AMP
